Honoured to chair the 9th Meeting of the African Group of World Heritage Committee Members in Dakar, Senegal, bringing together delegates from Senegal, Angola, Kenya, Namibia, Comoros, Togo, The Gambia, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Malawi and Tunisia to coordinate Africa’s common positions ahead of the forthcoming UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting in Busan, Republic of Korea.
The meeting reflects Africa’s shared commitment to safeguarding our rich cultural and natural heritage while strengthening the continent’s voice in global heritage governance.
I was privileged to be joined at the high table by Ambassador Pierre Faye, Permanent Delegate of Senegal to UNESCO and Head of the African Group at UNESCO, and Dr. Albino Jopela, Executive Director of the African World Heritage Fund.
Together, we continue to advance Africa’s heritage agenda and ensure that the continent speaks with a united and influential voice on matters of global significance.
