Minister for Agriculture, Honorable Hussein Bashe (MP) paid an official visit at the AVIV Tanzania Limited, one of the largest coffee estates in Tanzania primarily producing Arabica coffee, on the 18th of September 2024 in Ruvuma Region.
During his visit, Hon. Bashe said that he’s pleased to have seen progress made since his last visit to the Company last year, in particular the newly developed products of cold premium coffees flavored in Cherry Clap and Floral Dance for the Japanese market. Also, the development of black peppers with its samples been exported to Vietnam market and a coffee flavored tea named “Kaskala”.
“I am very pleased to witness that most of my previous directives have been implemented. If I may suggest to you apart from the various community initiatives that AVI Company has been doing it successfully, you should also develop a borehole for over 300,000 neighboring small-scale farmers. I believe that this will enable them to further improve their irrigation farming and productivity to meet the yield, while reducing any encroachment of deforestation,” said Hon. Bashe.
He further commended AVIV Company for being certified in various international platforms in the likes of Rainforest Alliance, U Café Practices, Atsource and AWS for its efforts in water security, trees and forest conservation.
AVI Tanzania Limited was established in 2011 with pattern rights of a brand called Café Ruvuma, producing about 4 percent of export volume in the country. It plans to produce green beans of up to 2700 metric tons by year 2025. It has also a native forest seedings nursery that produces 30,000 to 40,000 of coffee seedlings.
