The Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) has been issued with a certificate of recognition for being among sponsors of the 5th Empowerment Forum organized by the National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC). This year’s forum under the theme empowerment for the inclusive economy was held on 04th October, 2021 at LAPF Conference Hall in Dodoma and graced by the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa (MP). The Forum brought together over 450 participants from both the public and private sectors including Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Entrepreneurs.
Among dignitaries and high profile participants from the Government side who turned up for the event were Ministers (Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Investments – Geoffrey Mwambe, Minister of Constitution and Legal Affairs – Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, and Minister of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development – William Lukuvi); several Deputy Ministers; parliamentarians; Regional Commissioners, Regional Administrative Secretaries; District Commissioners; District Administrative Secretaries; Permanent Secretaries and their Deputies from various ministries; NEEC Board of Directors; NEEC Executive Director and heads of government entities.
The large crowd from a wide range of participants who turned up for the Forum is one of the tell-tale signs that this year’s event was a success. In addition to the turn up, the event saw Hon. Majaliwa launching the Annual National Empowerment Report (2020/2021) and a Web-based Supplier Database both prepared by NEEC.
PURA has a legal obligation to promote local participation in the upstream petroleum activities. Upon fulfilling such obligation, the Authority works closely with various stakeholders including NEEC and supports various local content-related initiatives aimed at capacitating Tanzanians to actively participate in upstream petroleum activities.
